Job Title: Chemical Plant Operator
Job Description

Join a dedicated team responsible for operating and monitoring a chemical manufacturing process that produces bulk organic chemicals. This role demands adherence to company standards and procedures to ensure safe operations while producing high-quality products. Standard tasks include packaging products, taking process samples, changing filters, cleaning centrifuges, moving large hoppers, flushing lines, and accurately filling out operating reports and documentation. Work on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule in a four-week cycle, involving both day and night shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Operate in a regulated environment, complying with all PSM and OSHA regulations, and consistently use appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor and operate reactors, decanters, filters, process columns, tanks, centrifuges, dryers, and miscellaneous equipment using manual operations and digital control systems.
  • Package, weigh, sample, and label finished and intermediate products, following applicable procedures and good manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain detailed operating reports and logs, noting problems, weights, volumes, temperatures, pH levels, pressures, and flow rates.
  • Deliver samples to the laboratory and retrieve operating supplies from the storeroom.
  • Clean and maintain work area, process equipment, tools, and safety supplies according to regulatory and company standards.
  • Operate hoists and other material handling devices to move bulk raw materials, work-in-progress, and packaged goods.
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety awareness and determine when equipment is not performing to standards.
  • Ensure proper operation of processing equipment to optimize production and maintain product quality.
  • Understand the misuse of processing equipment could result in injuries due to the hazardous nature of the equipment and chemicals.
  • Complete computer-based training on time.
  • Perform Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) independently and participate in employee involvement teams and committees to improve the workplace.
Essential Skills
  • Experience operating reactors, centrifuges, dryers, filters, and chemical processing equipment using manual controls, PLCs, and DCS systems.
  • Strong understanding of PSM (Process Safety Management) and OSHA regulations.
  • Consistent use of PPE and adherence to SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Accurate completion of operating reports, logs, and documentation.
  • Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions and respond appropriately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Associate or Technical degree preferred.
  • Previous PSM manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Basic math skills and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Teamwork capability to cover workstations during breaks and lunches.
Work Environment

Work in an open-air chemical plant environment where operators are exposed to the normal year-round outside climate, with 'homebase' workstations indoors. The environment features wet floors, chemical staining, and occasional chemical fumes. Handle average to heavy weight materials by hand, using material handling devices when possible. Physical activities include climbing stairs/ladders, rolling drums, lifting and pouring bags of raw materials, driving forklifts, and performing first aid. Be prepared to work with corrosive, flammable, and toxic materials, with layers of protection in place to ensure safety. The position requires working rotating 12-hour shifts and mandatory overtime to maintain safe staffing levels.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
