Job Title: Chemical Plant Operator (PAP)

Location: Raleigh, NC

Pay Rate: $24/hr on W2

Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (4-week cycle: 4 nights, 3 off, 3 days, 1 off, 3 nights, 3 off, 4 days, 7 off)

Summary of Position:

Join a collaborative team responsible for operating and monitoring a chemical manufacturing process for bulk organic chemicals. This role requires adherence to safety and operating standards while performing daily production tasks, including packaging, sampling, filter changes, equipment cleaning, and documentation.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (required)
• Associate or Technical degree (preferred)

Experience:

• Previous experience in a PSM-regulated manufacturing environment (preferred)

Skills & Competencies:

• Forklift operation (preferred)
• Ability to read/follow detailed instructions and procedures
• Effective communication (verbal and written)
• Basic math skills
• Strong decision-making and teamwork abilities
• Ability to wear required PPE

Essential Job Functions:

• Operate and monitor reactors, centrifuges, filters, dryers, tanks, and related equipment via manual, PLC, or DCS control
• Package, sample, label, and weigh intermediate/finished products
• Maintain accurate operating logs: pressures, weights, flow rates, pH, temperatures, and other key data
• Clean equipment and work areas per SOPs and safety guidelines
• Deliver samples to lab and retrieve materials from the storeroom
• Use hoists and other tools to move raw materials and products
• Ensure safety compliance with OSHA and PSM standards
• Complete computer-based training as assigned
• Follow appropriate LOTO procedures and monitor safety devices
• Participate in site teams or improvement initiatives as needed

Department-Specific / Non-Essential Duties:

• Monitor environmental and safety control systems (e.g., scrubbers, ruptured discs)
• Perform Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures independently
• Participate in site committees or safety/cost-saving events

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Open-air plant layout; climate exposure depending on season
• Wet floors and chemical residue common
• Occasional exposure to fumes and hazardous materials
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; use of material handling equipment encouraged
• Requires climbing, lifting, pouring, drum rolling, forklift driving, and basic first aid
• High safety awareness essential due to corrosive, flammable, and toxic chemicals
• Mandatory overtime and rotating shift work, including 12-hour shifts and 7-day off cycles

Reporting & Scope:

• Reports to: Production Supervisor or Lead Operator
• Works independently but as part of a team; expected to assist teammates during breaks/lunches
• No direct supervisory responsibilities

You should be proficient in:

• Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
• OSHA 10-Hour Certification (OSHA 10)
• Forklift Licensed
• Excellent Communication Skills
• Shop Math Skills
• Experience in a Manufacturing Environment
