Job Description

Summary: Administers the safety program intended to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents or losses from industrial accidents in accordance with federal and state safety laws and regulations. Uses independent judgment in performing job responsibilities. What you’ll be contributing Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. Work toward compliance with federal, state and local safety laws and regulations (MSHA, etc). Accompany inspectors during inspections and maintain all required records regarding safety activities. Serve as the liaison between the plant and safety regulatory agencies. Administer safety training and awareness programs for plant employees to prevent accidents, increase hazard awareness, and promote compliance with safety regulations. Work with supervisors and employees to develop safety procedures for their work areas and assist supervisors in ensuring they are consistently followed. Coordinate the development of emergency response systems and monitor their implementation to ensure proper functioning. Administer the fire protection program and coordinate the inspection and maintenance of fire protection systems. Make recommendations for the purchase of safety equipment including safety shoes/boots, glasses, first-aid supplies, etc. Oversee the activities of Safety Committee meetings and provide recommendations as needed. Conduct in-house inspections to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions and practices. When specified by plant management, conduct industrial hygiene testing such as annual audiometric exams and perform noise and dust surveys as needed. Investigate accidents and injuries in cooperation with workers' compensation insurance carrier. Complete required workers' compensation reports and maintain all proper records regarding accidents and injuries. Administer first-aid and CPR as needed and provide training on these skills. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor. To succeed in this position, you will need Minimum 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Applied or Basic Science, Safety Management or related field is preferred. Minimum 5 years of directly related experience in Environmental Health and Safety compliance in a cement, ready mix or related industry preferred. First-aid and CPR certification required. Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state and local safety laws and regulations. Working knowledge of industrial hygiene policies and practices. Working knowledge of safety programs, policies and practices applicable to a cement manufacturing environment. Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, decision-making, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use a personal computer. Travel up to 10%. Compensation Salary ranges from $90,200 to $140,900. Eligible for yearly bonus. Potential for Geographic Differential. What’s next for you?
