The Mental Health Clinical Practitioner provides specialized mental health services to refugees and immigrants, including those with chronic mental health conditions or other special needs. This role involves delivering culturally sensitive therapy and emotional support, focusing on addressing the unique experiences and challenges faced by refugee and immigrant populations in a non-residential setting. The practitioner will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement therapeutic interventions, ensuring holistic support for participants. Annual Success Objectives will be established to guide individual accountabilities and work volume, aligning with the overall goals of the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives case assignments, provides mental health assessment, establishes treatment plans, reviews case progress, and determines case closure through the supervision of the supervisor of the assigned program.
  • Provides trauma-informed counseling on individual and group settings to address psychosocial and behavioral challenges of clients.
  • Provides clients with counseling and concrete assistance to support increase or restore client’s capacity for self-sufficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic and professional relationships with clients to facilitate the receipt of services.
  • Develops service plans, which outline a specific plan of action with each client under the regular supervision of the supervisor of the assigned program.
  • Makes referrals in accordance with service plans to other organization units and external providers.
  • Works cooperatively with the program team and primary and psychiatric service providers at the HAH clinics to maximize service outcomes.
  • Participates and contributes to regular supervision meetings, team meetings, in house training sessions and conferences.
  • Accurately completes in a timely manner all necessary forms, case recordings and statistical reports.
  • Participates in program and operational planning.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews socio-emotional support groups for clients of the assigned program, in collaboration with supervisor of the assigned group.
  • Provides intense advocacy, crisis intervention, counseling and problem solving in a variety of areas for all clients.
  • Establishes and maintains a professional and therapeutic relationship within the standards of client profiles, confidentiality laws and the newest clinical research available.
  • Assesses, plans and supplements the client’s level of functioning.
  • Develops, implements, oversees and follows-up with client treatment plans to ensure that realistic goals and deadlines of accomplishments are being met.
  • Maintains documentation of client’s individual and group treatment.
  • Maintains the volume of work designated by project standards and utilizes the mental health theory and concepts integrating in clinical practice. On an ongoing basis assimilates the knowledge of resources available to implement the clinical concepts.
  • Assumes all clinical responsibility for clients.
  • Manages and participates in all project meetings and maintains the minutes of meetings on a rotating basis.
  • Presents clinical case reviews.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with outside providers, case managers and hospitals.
  • Consults with the Psychiatrist regarding treatment reviews.
  • Adheres to professional standards as outlined by governmental bodies, NASW (and/or other appropriate professional associations), private funding sources, Organization plans/policies and Unit guidelines. Participates in periodic evaluative reviews and/or in-house and external staff training to ensure that he/she understands and continues to adhere to such standards. Initiates requests for assistance from Supervisor to address new issues or complex concepts affecting adherence to professional standards.

  • Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree (M.A.) in clinical social work, counseling or clinical psychology; and one to two years of clinical practice experience in either a hospital or community setting providing group and/or individual therapy.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Eligible to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC.)
  • Other Qualifications: A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Fluency in a second language is strongly preferred.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
