Michael Baker International is seeking to hire a full-time, exempt, Archaeological Field Supervisor (Archaeologist I) reporting to the Moon Township Office, Pittsburgh, PA. The position is full-time remote; however, preference is given to applicants in the Nashville, TN or Pittsburgh, PA area. An archaeological field supervisor performs both field- and/or post-field tasks, including management of archaeological field crew and daily supervision of Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations. Work assignments may be in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and/or Southeastern United States including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, and Arkansas

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

· Must have 3+ years of demonstrable Phase I, II, and III supervisory experience

· Must have working knowledge of soils development, site development processes, and stratigraphy

· Must have ability to interpret field findings

· Must have excellent communication skills

· Must provide regular field progress updates to theArchaeologist II, Archaeologist III, Department/Technical Manager, or Cultural Resources Director, as necessary

· Coordinate field mobilization and scheduling

· Must be willing to travel

· Conduct landowner coordination, when necessary

· Assemble required field equipment

· Conduct on-site daily health and safety briefings

· Conduct construction monitoring and coordination

· Oversee daily field operations and assign field crew tasks

· Maintain daily photo log and field notes and review paperwork daily to ensure consistency and accuracy

· Assign and record all field designations (e.g., strata, features)

· Perform all field recordation (e.g., photography, Trimble GPS, field mapping, and/or site plans)

· Responsible for writing, or assisting in writing, field methods and results based on fieldwork, and report preparation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be able to walk and/or hike over all types of terrain, sometimes over great distances (average daily walking distance up to 2 miles), while carrying both personal and company equipment (e.g., shovels, screens). Must be able to lift heavy loads (e.g., soil-filled buckets) up to 50 lbs. Job requires repeated bending, lifting, screening, kneeling, and digging.

MINIMUM PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

  • Have a firm understanding of Section 106, National Environmental Policy Act, and/or applicable permitting guidelines.
  • Have a working knowledge of software including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Photoshop, ARC GIS, and Pathfinder.
  • Have working knowledge of field-related recordation technology (e.g., compass, photography, Trimble GPS, tablets, etc.).
  • Meet Secretary of the Interior standards (36 Code of Federal Regulations Part 61) for applicable discipline. The ability to meet specific state-related standards should also be indicated .
  • Is a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or has the ability to apply for the registry.
  • Can read and understand project mapping.
  • Position may require expanded periods of travel. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION

The pay range for an Archaeologist I is between $57,569.04 and $86,353.56, per annum.
