Job Title: Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
Location: Remote (Serving students in Michigan)
Employment Type: Full-Time 1099 Contract
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide specialized instruction and support to K-12 students in Michigan. This position is conducted virtually, allowing the educator to work from home while delivering services in compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Michigan Department of Education guidelines.
Provide direct virtual instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students using evidence-based practices.
Adapt and develop instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students with hearing loss.
Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, interpreters, and families to support student access and progress.
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and monitoring of IEP goals.
Conduct assessments and progress monitoring to inform instruction and service delivery.
Provide consultation and support to school staff regarding accommodations, assistive technology, and communication strategies.
Maintain accurate records of services, progress, and communication in compliance with district and state guidelines.
Stay current with best practices and legal requirements in deaf education and special education.
Bachelors or Masters degree in Deaf Education or related field.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HI) education.
Experience providing instruction to DHH students, preferably in a remote or hybrid setting.
Strong understanding of ASL, cued speech, and/or other communication modalities (depending on student needs).
Proficiency with virtual learning tools (Zoom, Google Meet, online learning platforms, etc.).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a virtual caseload effectively.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Experience working with students with cochlear implants, hearing aids, or FM systems.
Knowledge of assistive and educational technology for DHH students.
Previous experience with teletherapy or virtual teaching platforms.
